The World Serpent
Artist Statement
A take on a classic Norse mythological symbol. The world serpent holding the earth in its scales. Each section of its body detailed by the mountains, the sea, and the city.
As usual, when a six-year old asks me to draw her favorite animal as a coloring page, I couldn’t just draw any old snake. This is what slithered out of me, and I’m happy to offer it for sale as my first monthly artwork.
This isn’t the giant from the God of War games, but rather an embodiment of patterns from our Earth. From his head where the lightning storm rages out across the alpine forest, to the coral reef representing the life of our oceans, and to the human constructed city skyline. Our legacy upon this planet.
Drawn on Procreate with iPad and Apple Pencil by John Glock - July 2025.
