The Flame Queen
Artist Statement
She started her life as a ballerina. I was imagining a pose. Something elegant and graceful. As usual, I couldn’t just keep it with the mundane figure, I had to set her on fire.
Once I did that, she took a life of her own. Formed of a cracked crown of obsidian, I textured her with flame gods and motifs from all over the world. It was hypnotic, rhythmic, and meditative putting in all the details. In the end, I found the dance and the movement I was seeking.
